Ingredients
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon neutral oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Whipped cream or ice cream, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- 1
Whisk the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together with a fork in a large (12- to 16-ounce) microwave-safe mug until no clumps remain.
- 2
Whisk in the milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Top with the chocolate chips.
- 3
Microwave on high for about 2 minutes, until risen and no longer wet on top and a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Add 15-second bursts only if needed — do not overcook or it will dry out.

Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm, topped with more chocolate chips, whipped cream, or ice cream if desired.
